"There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off." Proverbs 23:18 (NIV)

“…but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. “ (Isaiah 40:31)

Moses had his wilderness, Joseph his prison, Job his physical afflictions, Daniel his captivity, and Jonah his days in the belly of a great fish. Each endured a different trial, but they all had one trait in common: they were alone. Desperate. At the depths of discouragement. When there was no one else to hear, they finally heard God, and God was able to re-direct their paths and restore them to a productive, victorious life!

There have been many dark and lonely days in my life, too. Unfortunately, months turned into years as I attempted to handle each crisis on my own terms. Usually, the result was a greater crisis than ever! It was only at the darkest hour, the lowest moment, that I realized the Scripture verses so casually referenced on Sundays had Real Power!

This discovery turned into a Scripture Quest--I delved into the Scriptures hungrily, absorbing verse after verse of powerful, God inspired statements. Each “power verse” was written on a simple index card and placed in a small basket. As I ate my meals in solitude, I’d flip through my collection of verses. When my favorite television program went to commercial, I’d mute the volume and read through the verse cards.

Subtly and quietly, God was redirecting my focus from “me, myself, and I” back to Him! Specific verses would surface in my mind as I encountered the challenges of a routine day. As my perspective changed, so did my life.

Within six months, though still scarred and battle-weary, I began to review my options through God’s eyes. The very day that I placed my lonely social life in His control, he led me into the path of the wonderful man I now call my husband.

The verses I share with you throughout the pages of this website are verses from that same collection of index cards. The original small basket has been replaced with a much larger basket of many inspiring verses. The cards are dog-eared and soiled from use, but seeking wisdom from their powerful words remains a huge focus of each day.

Do not settle for clichés or platitudes—spiritual or otherwise!! Get into God’s Word and discover for yourself the power and healing that awaits you!

In His Love,
Barb
